My best friend's sister is going to have a baby girl at the end of Janusry. I get all excited so I have made her a few things so far, but I'm sure I will make more soon:) All of these are freehand and I never write patterns down so yeah:) ( Baby projects ) | | Monday, December 11th, 2006 | 7:45 pm [jeensgrrl]

The ugliest blanket in the world...
I am on a mission. I want to make the ugliest blanket in the world. I think i can accomplish this easily and quickly. You see...I have lots of half done knitting and crochet projects that will be great to piece together for this sole purpose. I mean i estimate the blanket will be done in early 2007. So it will have to be quick and easy. It is sort of funny too because I am going to use all types of yarn...from cheesey 1.99 skeins to 12.00 for 80 yard skeins. I can imagine it will be heavy too. And it will have to be dry cleaned because I already used a very nice silk cashmere blend in it. LMAO. I want to put it on the bed when done with it. kenny is involved in this too, as I have taught him how to knit...in fact as we speak he is knitting a sqare to be put into the blanket. I wish I knew some more people that knit or crochet because I would ask for their help...I mean if everyone made a square or something it would be done soooo much more quickly. LOL I would even supply the yarn...considering I have enough to open my own yarn shop if I wanted to. Ok back to my knitting....because we all need an ugly homemade blanket! | | Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006 | 3:52 pm [rupanzal]

progress
I have not been online in almost a year, since I graduate from college. I am back though and was wondering what the progress on the book has been. It looks like it has been a year since the last post. Is that correct!? When this was first started, so many people were excited and very into the idea. What happened? I did not contribute much becuase I did not think I had much to contribute. But now I am willing and ready to help in some way and you guys are not here!! Ok..So I feel kind of silly like Im jumping on the bandwagon or something. I thought this was an amazing idea from the begining and wanted to join in on the fun, but it was my junior year in high school and school was really kicking my butt! I didnt have time for much of anything! So now school is out, and I can join in. I hope Im not too late. Im not really an expert or anything...but I think I have some good ideas. What do you guys still need? Im willing to do pretty much anything! Thanks Shea | | Sunday, May 22nd, 2005 | 8:37 am [guavmom]

News From the Magpie
...that's what the son has been calling me lately. And alot of news does sift my way. So here's the scoop: I have a dear old friend who lives near, and works for NYU. She teaches communications andhas her own cable T.V. show. When I told her about HOOKERBOOK, she got quite excited. Anywho, she said that when we get it together, she wants to do a show on us, and the book. Cool, huh? Current Mood: Psyched! | | Friday, May 20th, 2005 | 9:19 pm [guavmom]

Hookerbook: Book Design
I woke up with this sudden thought in my head: I would like to suggest, that the Hookerbook be designed to be very user friendly. In keeping with this concept, I was thinking that I'd like to suggest that it be spiral bound, with very sturdy covers. Such a book will lay open flat on a surface, and be easier to refer to. Books with regular binding and spines, kind of snap shut. Do you know what I mean? Also, I was thinking that it would be very hip, to have a few pages of 1) blank pages, for design sketches, 2) Some lined pages, for jotting down ideas, and 3) some graph paper pages for plotting graphed designs, or filet designs, between each chapter, or at the ends of the pertinent chapters. Speaking of which, do we have anyone doing a chapter on graphed designs, yet? I want to really throw myself into the book creation, as soon as my current spate of projects is completed. I envsion this book as both very full of information, and inspiration, as well as being a type of workbook for people very serious about both learning, and expanding their crochet horizons. Remember, all, your input is what is going to make this book all it can be, so write hookerbook with any ideas and visions you have for the project. The timing could'nt be more perfect, with the current interest in crochet. I got a ROAMANS catalog yesterday, and increasingly, more and more crocheted garments are showing up in its pages. Oh! And lest I forget, Ana Voog wrote to me yesterday, and she's quite excited about this project as well, and any part that she might play in it. Now THERE'S humility for you! Let's make this happen! Hello. Layout? Patterns?
Hey all. ^_^ I'm kind of a 'newbie' on the community sceen but you may have seen me comment in the community 'crochet' - although I've yet to formally post. I'd just like to begin by saying I think this is the most awesome idea ever and I'm totally backing it a hundred percent. I might not be able to design anything awesome - maybe a few afghans as that's what I'm best at, although I have a few skirt ideas but since I've never written a pattern before the idea of making all those sizes is daunting - I'd really like to help somehow. My strengths are in layout design and graphics. Aside of attempting a few afghan patterns, I'd really like to submit preliminary book designs. I have many, many books of both knit and crochet patterns and being the geek that I am notice all the flaws and good points and would like to have the chance to design the layout for something like this. Of course, I know I'm a late to jump on this project, so if this has been filled then I'm completely accepting of that fact and I'll stick to designing patterns. And if not, don't think I'm about to try to take this whole thing over or that I'm even suggesting that (because I sometimes come off that way). I love suggestions and I'll submit any designs for everyone to see. The great thing about this project is that so many people are involved that there's something for everyone. The layout of a project like this would be more easy to perfect when their are many people telling you the good and bad points. Oh, and one last question and I'll shut up: Do you have to copyright your patterns before attempting to sell or publish them? I assume so during publishing, but I was considering selling some, and that could potential border copyright infringment if your pattern was similar to another and you didn't know it. Anyway, off to read the old posts in this community and catch up. ^_^ Current Mood: quixotic | | Thursday, April 28th, 2005 | 9:34 am [guavmom]

Update
Hey all! >lj user="ladyedaoin"> and I were talking, and appears to us that interest in Hookerbook has cooled somewhat. We were thinking that maybe we would extend the timeframe for submissions, and plan on next year for the retreat and book publication to insure the best product. If we're not looking at an artificial deadline of getting it done right away, we can concentrate on the quality of the book. I'd really like to see it be the best we can do, not the quickest. I envision it as being highly informative, and highly entertaining....chatty, casual, and as comfortable and serviceable as your favorite pair of old jeans. Like the community....without the cat fights...hahahah!! Anyone can write yet one more book on crochet, I want ours to have a distinctive personality. Are we all up to speed on this? Let me know what y'all think. OKay? Hook on, troops! Love, Guavmom Current Mood: Inquisitive | 9:34 am [guavmom]

college essay about afghans as a cultural artifact.
I was just going through my floppy disks from college and putting my old papers on my hard drive. I saw one with the file name of "afghan", and this is what I found. I don't even remember writing it! I just thought it was ironic, being that I now make my own special crochet creations, and I put a lot of care and love in them as well. I guess the assignment was to write a paper about a cultural artifact, and this is what I came up with. ( long, so it's behind the cut ) | | Sunday, April 17th, 2005 | 11:43 am [guavmom]

What's Happening?
hey all....has thew initial interest in our book already peaked and waned? It seems as if there has been little follow up lately in this community. [Unknown LJ tag] has published a poll regarding the proposed retreat, to which only a handful of community members have answered so far. I have already written my portions of the book, minus a couple. I still think this book is a great idea, and would really like to see it happen. Come on, troops! Let's rally behind the book effort. We can SO do this! And it can be great. Current Mood: Curious | | Saturday, April 16th, 2005 | 10:26 am [elegant_emily]

Hookin and Cookin
Okay, here is what I had in mind for the chapter on Hookin and Cookin: Recipes that are either fast to whipup, or slow cooker recipes. In other words, recipes that don't keep us from our passion for hookin for too long Capiche? Also, I will post the terms I already have for the glossary, and if I've left anything out, you all can send me additions. Okay? Wire Crochet Jewelry, Recipes, Glossary Submissions
I saw a beautiful necklace made by my_cuppa_tea in the crochet community today. It was crocheted with wire and beads. I wrote to her to see if she would like to post it's picture and possibly a chapter on the process of making one for our book. She was aware of the book, but not the community, and will check it out. Do we have a title yet? I've been out of touch for two weeks, so I hope that the interest in this project is still just as alive as it was when we started out. My best to everybody, and I still need recipe submissions for a chapter on Hookin and Cookin, and words for a glossary. | | Tuesday, March 29th, 2005 | 1:38 am [guavmom]

Guavmom's Progress
Hello, my dears. What's been going on since I've been offline? How's the book coming along? While I was "on vacation", I wrote the better part of 4 chapters. I need submissions for a GLOSSARY. I already have 28 words. I'll use any that you send me that I don't already have. I wrote a short piece called" Who We Are"...sort of an intro/foreward to use in addition to Momily's. I also did the better part of a chapter on freestyling, and something called, " Hookin and Cookin", for which I'll need recipe submissions. Then, I started something on my natural hand creme recipe, and I still want to do a chapter on dyeing with wildcrafted plant stuffs, and common kitchen ingredients. I hope the interest is still alive for writing the book. I'm still psyched. Current Mood: Inquisitive | | Friday, March 25th, 2005 | 12:01 pm [chorus_of_chaos]

Left handed crochet pictures
I'm not positive I'll be able to do it, as my digital cam is somewhat crappy (unless someone would want to buy me a good one, ha ha!)and I'd have to find someone to take the pictures while I crochet, but I could probably do picture demonstrations of left handed crochet for the book if we would like to do such a thing. As a leftie I can tell you it is very frustrating trying to turn those handdrawn right handers images around in your already ass backwards brain! (I have tiny, short fat fingered ugly fingernailed hands though :( I'd suck as a hand model, but I'm thinking the yarn and hook would hide most of that!) I would need to know what stitches you would want demonstrated. | | Thursday, March 17th, 2005 | 1:11 pm [rintheamazing]
